N-Lite Laser

The N-Lite laser, described as “the most significant advancement in acne treatment in decades” is a noninvasive, pulsed dye laser that has been approved by the FDA for treatment of inflammatory acne. Clinical studies have shown N-Lite to be comparable, if not more effective, than prescription antibiotics. Treatment is usually painless, with a momentary feeling of warming of the skin as the laser is passed over the area treated. One is usually able to resume normal activity immediately with no recovery. A pleasant side effect of the treatment is the replenishment of collagen which helps to repair damage caused by the acne infection.

The laser produces a beam which reacts with a substance produced by skin bacteria, creating a reaction which releases oxygen, killing the bacteria present in acne. For mild acne, a single treatment may be sufficient to suppress acne for up to 3 months or longer. For moderate to severe acne, more frequent treatment is usually needed. Since acne is a chronic disease, maintenance treatments may be required and will vary depending on the individual.

Other complementary treatments include: microdermabrasion, Thermage, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, punch excision and grafting of deep scars, and injection of filler.
