Botox works to decrease outward signs of aging by reducing wrinkles and neck bands (known as platysma bands-which arise from the underlying neck muscle-platysma muscle).
Dr.Burke uses Botox to reshape jaws and faces (jaw slimming or reduction) without the need for a surgical procedure.
In many cases, to decrease headaches and jaw pain which occur from jaw clenching or Bruxism.
What is Botox and how does it work?
Botox is a neuromodulator which works by blocking impulses, or signals sent by nerves that normally result in the muscles contracting, but are unable to fully contract while the neuromodulator is working.
What are the common uses for Botox, and are there special ways that Dr.Burke uses Botox?
- Botox’s most common use is to erase signs of aging which are created by overactive muscles. This overactivity of muscles creates frown type lines in the skin.
- “Jaw Slimming” and facial reshaping.
- Masking assymetries (differences between the right and left sides of the face and jaws).
- He also uses it to treat certain types of pain and headaches.
- Overactive jaw muscles (bruxism) also respond to Botox.
Botox is commonly used to treat dynamic rhytids-facial wrinkles caused by normal movements such as laughing, frowning, looking surprised and concentrating.
Botox treats the 11’s
The lines in the glabellar region (between the eyes) are also known as the “11’s” also may be treated. These lines are caused by muscles contracting. This creates actual folds in the skin. The longer that this goes on, the deeper and more resistant they become.
When the 11’s are very deep, Botox alone may not be enough. In those cases, Dr.Burke combines Botox with a threadlift technique to further decrease them.
As the muscles relax, wrinkles are less prominent (between the eyes, forehead creases, crow’s feet around the eyes and lines above the lip and around the neck).
Are there other uses for Botox?
Botox can also be used to correct hyperactive muscles (tics) and a crooked smile.
Botox is used by Dr.Burke to minimize vertical lines that appear on the upper lip as one ages. Often, Dr.Burke combines this treatment with the use of selective volume fillers and a thread lift of the lip area.
Botox for Jaw Reshaping (Slimming): Creating Jaw reduction without surgery. In past years this required a surgical procedure. Now Botox provides a nonsurgical option. It works by allowing the muscle to relax and shrink in size. Often this accomplishes several additional purposes including decreasing jaw pain with chewing, decreasing headaches related to jaw clenching.
Dr.Burke also uses Botox, where indicated to reshape the face, jawline (jaw slimming), and upper neck.
Curious About the Cost for Botox?
Dr. Burke uses neuromodulators (Botox) for jaw and facial reshaping-resulting in decreasing jaw width and minimizing assymetry (nonsurgical jaw reshaping). This is also known as jaw slimming.
Patients have traveled from Asia, Europe, Australia, South America, and North America for these procedures. Our office is a short drive from Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
Botox for Treatment of Bruxism
Dr.Burke also uses Botox in selective instances to decrease jaw pain from bruxism and migraines. As the muscles are weakened by the Botox, the frequency and force of jaw muscle clenching decreases.
